4 APPS I'M LOVING RIGHT NOW (FREE)

Friday, April 24, 2020

As someone who likes to be as intentional as possible with the time I spend on my phone but also a tech obsessive I'm constantly at battle with myself over whether or not to cry at the screen time that's been logged and I don't think I'm the first person to have this concern pop up every now and again. Our relationship with technology has changed a lot over recent years and we're no longer having to take turns with our siblings on the one shared family computer- that's if you were lucky enough to have one at all. We now have these tiny computers in our pockets able to connect to any site we want, whenever we want. Not to mention, since lockdown, we're all turning to our phones a lot more to keep us connected and occupied. With this in mind, I thought I'd share with you the apps that I'm currently loving and hopefully, there may be something that you might like to give a go yourself.

NEXTDOOR

I downloaded this app in the middle of 2018 and it's something I've turned to every day, to the point now that it's one of the only apps that I receive notifications for. I can't believe more people aren't utilising it. Next Door is an app that allows you to connect to your neighbors. Kinda like a Facebook page but only for your street and surrounding area. Since the COVID-19 outbreak, there's also been a new feature added in where you can see a map of the people in your area who are willing to run errands for you (pick up prescriptions, buy groceries, etc) and you simply click on their pictures and send them a message. If you're self-isolating or you're considered at risk you have an entire list of people that can help. Pretty sweet, huh? Also, download if you're a fan of sky pictures, looking for updates on community projects, or just like to hear the stories from the locals.

COLOR LAND

Colour by numbers, anyone? It's a great way to pass time and keep yourself occupied. This app takes that to a whole new level. Think Minecraft + colour by numbers. Yeah, pretty cool. You're basically creating 3D pictures (villages, etc) out of the numbered blocks you have at the bottom of the screen. Although this app might not be for everyone, I think it's a really simple and accessible app that can help if you're feeling particularly stressed or, understandably right now, bored.

LIGHTROOM

I know, I know. Late to the party or what? I'm a creature of habit and I got so tied up in VSCO that I never even thought about branching out. The problem I find with a lot of photo editing apps is that they massive overcomplicate the process for me. I don't like to go over the top with editing, I just want something simple that works for me. I have a preset on Lightroom that I've fallen in love with and I'm shocked to say this but I've actually cancelled my subscription to VSCO as a result. Scandal.

DAY ONE JOURNAL

If there's one thing I potentially over recommend to those who ask me for advice on various topics, it's keeping some kind of journal. I like to think of my journal as a second home for my thoughts. It's where I get everything out onto paper to either try to make sense of them or simply disregard them. Mostly the latter, if I'm honest. Day one journal allows you to make short entries daily. You can include pictures, geotags and even voice memos. Getting into the habit of writing in here every day- even if it's only a few sentences- has helped to clear my mind and improve my writing style. Although I have to admit, I am a paper and pen kinda girl at heart, having a digital place to keep my thoughts makes it accessible for me at all times.

What are your favourite apps to use right now? Do you think you'll try any of these? Let me know in the comments.
